On March 8th, 2025, a group of 11 fly fishing enthusiasts from across Portugal gathered near Mirandela for a special pike fly fishing meetup. The day was marked by camaraderie and knowledge sharing, even though fishing conditions were tough – the dam was flat calm and very cold, and unfortunately, the pike were not active.
Leading up to the physical gathering, two online sessions were held. On January 22nd, we discussed gear selection, water body strategies, pike behavior, and effective fishing techniques. Then on January 28th, José Barbosa hosted a dedicated fly tying session for pike, explaining material choices, tying patterns, and how these influence results on the water.
Despite a slow day on the water, the spirit of learning and connection made it a valuable experience. Thank you to everyone who participated!
